19 Uzbek citizens detained in Saudi Arabia return home
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Nineteen Uzbek citizens who had been detained in Saudi Arabia returned home between 12 and 14 March, according to the Dunyo news agency. Among them were women and minors.
The detentions were due to violations of local laws and behavioral regulations. Many Uzbeks had entered Saudi Arabia on tourist visas but later remained in the country to seek employment without obtaining the necessary permits. Some young individuals had left without informing their families, causing concern among relatives and prompting active searches.
Thanks to negotiations between Uzbekistan’s embassy and the relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia, all those detained were able to return home.
Diplomats urged Uzbek citizens planning trips abroad to familiarize themselves with the host country’s laws in advance, respect local customs, and ensure they obtain all necessary documentation for legal residence and employment. They also recommended learning basic language skills of the destination country to facilitate communication.
In case of difficulties while in Saudi Arabia, Uzbek citizens can seek assistance from the country’s embassy in Riyadh or the consulate general in Jeddah.
