Uzbekistan 27/08/2007 180 Uzbek students receive Russian Government scholarships

A group of young citizens of Uzbekistan received certificates of admission to Russian universities and institutes in a special ceremony at the Embassy of Russia in Tashkent on 22 August. The study expenses will be covered from the Federal Budget of the Russian Federation.

Within the frame of the Russian-Uzbek cooperation in the field of education, every year the Government of the Russian Federation provides scholarships to the citizens of Uzbekistan, which cover the expenses of studying for the jobs in high demand in Uzbekistan. This year, scholarships have been awarded to 180 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

During the past year active measures were taken to inform upper-class students, their teachers and parents of the scholarship programme. The information on the number of scholarships being issued, the study programmes, and the application forms were published in press and on the websites of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, the office of the Russian Foreign Centre in Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education of Uzbekistan.

The organizers conducted meetings with students, and presentations describing Russian universities. When selecting candidates, special attention was given to the support of talented youth, who have demonstrated their best at the city, national, and international contests and Olympiads.

At the final selection round, the candidates took a special test conducted by the Commission which included the representatives of the Embassy of Russia, Russian Foreign Centre, Republican Russian Cultural Centre, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education of Uzbekistan.
