Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- To date, 15 units of 5G base stations are operating in test mode in Tashkent. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The ministry recalled that since September 2019, two local mobile operators, Uzmobile and Ucell, have begun test trials of 5G technology, and by now 15 base stations are operating in test mode in Tashkent.
Currently, over 31,700 base stations of mobile communications have been installed and put into operation throughout the republic. As a result, the level of mobile coverage of settlements in the republic reached 98 percent. This year, it is planned to increase the total number of stations to 33.7 thousand, and thereby bring the level of mobile coverage to 99 percent.
If until 2020, work was mainly carried out to expand mobile networks, now projects are being implemented to expand the coverage of the network and provide Internet services based on 3G / 4G technologies. In particular, in 2020, 3,600 units of 2G base stations were upgraded according to 3G / 4G standards. In addition, 5,641 new stations were also installed and put into operation.
