130 people died at the stadium after the football match in Indonesia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the 11th round of the Indonesian Championship, a match between Arema and Persebaia was held at the Kanjurukhan stadium in Malang. (2:3). The brawl after the game ended in a tragedy that claimed the lives of 130 people, according to Reuters.

The match between the teams is considered a local derby, so a lot of attention was riveted to it from the fans who filled the stadium. After the final whistle, the behavior of the Arema fans escalated into riots, and the security service took the players off the field. Then the fans broke out onto the lawn and there was a skirmish between them and the police. Enraged fans began to throw various objects at the security forces, to which they used batons and tear gas grenades in response.

After the incident, the Indonesian Human Rights Commission called for checking the work of the security services on the ground. Thus, it became known that the stadium, which can accommodate no more than 38 thousand people, was attended by about 42 thousand visitors on Saturday.

Indonesian Sports Minister Zainudin Amalie said the agency will review the requirements for organizing football matches. In addition, the games of the Indonesian top league BRI Liga 1 will be suspended while the circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
