Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan opened a criminal case under part 4 of Article 159 (Infringement on the constitutional order of the Republic of Uzbekistan) and other articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This was stated by the prosecutor of the Prosecutor General’s Office Abror Mamatov.
He noted that on 1 July this year in Nukus, a group of people, hiding behind false slogans, misled the minds of citizens, did not obey the lawful demands of law enforcement officers and caused riots.
In order to ensure the legality and inevitability of punishment, a criminal case was initiated on 2 July under part 4 of article 159 and other articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abror Mamatov said.
According to him, investigative and operational activities in connection with the criminal case are carried out by an investigative and operational group consisting of senior officers of the State Security Service, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard.
The activities of the operational-search group and operational-search activities are coordinated by a separate interdepartmental headquarters, he noted.
According to the investigation, on 1 July 2022, at 14:50, Dauletmurat Tadjimuratov, editor of the El Khyzmetinde newspaper and blogger, sent a video message through the Makan.uz channel of the Telegram social network, calling for a rally “for the freedom of the Republic of Karakalpakstan” in front of the building Jokorgy Kenes at 17:00 on 5 July, said Abror Mamatov.
The prosecutor emphasized that after that, on 1v 2022, at 15:30, Dauletmurat Tadjimuratov was taken to the law enforcement agencies of Nukus for calling on citizens to organize an illegal rally through social networks.
A group of people, having learned about the detention of blogger Dauletmurat Tadjimuratov, organized riots and demanded his release. The riots were organized on the road in front of the Central Farmer’s Market LLC, Abror Mamatov said.
He noted that after that Dauletmurat Tadjimuratov was released. Despite this, Tadjimuratov and his supporters continued to riot, actively resisted the security forces, tried to change the current state system of the Republic of Uzbekistan and openly called for conquest to seize power.
Abror Mamatov said that after that, on 2 July 2022, at 2:45 pm, about 300 people from Nukus district moved towards the city of Nukus and, disobeying the legal requirements of law enforcement officers, stole special equipment (a walkie-talkie, a baton, a helmet, a stun grenade, a shield) from 50 National Guard officers at a checkpoint in Nukus.
According to the prosecutor, on that day, unknown persons attacked a military post in Khojaly district, seized weapons, attacked the Nukus International Airport, the Rehabilitation Center, where administrative detainees are kept in Nukus, and the building of the Nukus police department.
During the riots, a MAN truck with registration number 40 L 340 QA near the Las Vegas cafe in Nukus, a KamAZ truck with registration number 01 267 UFA in front of the central mosque in Eski Shahar, a wagon of the farmer Ismoilov Jabbor-bergen in Shumanai district were set on fire, said the representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The bridge over the Dostlik canal near the Nukus city sports complex, many buildings and checkpoints in the city of Nukus were damaged, he added.
As a result of the riots, 245 people were injured of varying severity, including 38 law enforcement officers, 18 citizens died as a result of severe injuries, Abror Mamatov said.
Investigative and operational-search activities are ongoing. Investigative and search activities are carried out in strict accordance with the law, all measures are being taken to ensure the legality and inevitability of punishment, he said.
