Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13 April, the second forum on the topic "The role of women parliamentarians in the development of Uzbekistan" was held in the capital. The event was organized by the Republican Commission on Women’s Role in Society, Gender Equality and the Family, the Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality, and the OSCE.
It was attended by senators and deputies, deputies of local Kengashes, members of the Youth Parliament, senior officials of state bodies and public organizations, representatives of international organizations and the media.
The event was addressed by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis T. Narbayeva, who noted that in recent years the country has been implementing large-scale reforms aimed at creating equal rights and opportunities for women and men, ensuring their full participation in managing the affairs of society and the state, their social economic and legal support.
It should be noted that to date, 2 Laws, about 40 by-laws have been adopted in the republic in accordance with the norms of international law and standards in this area.
Today, the number of women parliamentarians complies with the UN recommendations and is 32%. The proportion of women in managerial positions reached 27%, and in political parties - 44%.
As noted at the event, in the international ranking of the Inter-Parliamentary Union "Women in Politics" in 2021, Uzbekistan took 45th place among the countries of the world and entered the top 50.
During the discussion, the issues of strengthening the participation of women senators and deputies in the implementation of the tasks set to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the implementation of effective public control, and the wide involvement of representatives of non-governmental non-profit organizations and other civil society institutions in this process were also discussed.
In particular, the participants emphasized the importance of effective organization of local implementation of the National Program to increase the activity of women in all spheres of the economic, political and social life of the country for 2022-2026, and the Strategy for achieving gender equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030.
The forum expressed proposals and opinions on enhancing the participation of women in state and public administration, involving them in the decision-making process in government bodies. The participants also continued the discussion in four areas to consider new ideas.
In particular, special attention was paid to the issues of ensuring the effectiveness of the activities of the standing commissions of local Kengashes on youth policy, women and gender equality, the effective work of members of the Youth Parliament with local executive bodies, issues of increasing the role of women in solving problems related to the environment and conducting environmental policy. .
As a result of the forum, opinions and proposals were summarized, and appropriate recommendations were developed.
