Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Chairperson of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matvienko discussed with Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva the prospects for the development of inter-parliamentary ties, including interaction within the framework of the IPA CIS. This was reported by the press service of the Federation Council.
Valentina Matvienko stressed that relations between Russia and Uzbekistan have the character of a strategic partnership and alliance, and are developing dynamically, including in the international arena.
The Speaker of the Federation Council considered it important to discuss the bilateral and regional agenda in the context of the preparation of the upcoming state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Russia. "I am sure the parliamentarians will make a significant contribution to the successful holding of the summit, and the visit will become a breakthrough in bilateral relations."
Valentina Matvienko noted that close interaction between the legislative bodies of the two countries continued in the context of the pandemic. The practical result of the joint work was the preparation and approval of a Memorandum of Cooperation on labor migration, added the Chairperson of the Federation Council.
According to her, the development of interregional ties has become an important area of bilateral cooperation. The parties discussed the prospects for holding the II Forum of Interregional Cooperation in Moscow and spoke in favor of intensifying interaction at the level of regional parliaments.
During the conversation, issues of mass vaccination against COVID-19 were raised. Valentina Matvienko expressed confidence that vaccination will help normalize the epidemiological situation. The Speaker of the Federation Council noted the accelerated registration of the Russian-made vaccine in Uzbekistan.
Tanzila Narbaeva thanked Russia for the prompt assistance during the pandemic. “Your country sent tests, teams of Russian doctors consulted Uzbek colleagues. This is the manifestation of friendship between our peoples,” she said.
Touching upon the topic of cultural and humanitarian interaction, the Chairperson of the Federation Council recalled that Uzbekistan is the leader in the number of students studying in Russian universities. “There are 12 branches of Russian higher educational institutions in Uzbekistan. This is how we preserve a single educational space,” she said.
The Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis noted mutual interest in the development of educational programs.
During the meeting, Valentina Matvienko invited the Uzbek delegation to take part in the work of the third Eurasian Women’s Forum and in the preparation of the World Conference on Interreligious and Interethnic Dialogue.
The meeting was also attended by Ilyas Umakhanov, co-chairman from the Russian part of the Commission on Cooperation of the Federation Council and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Viktor Bondarev, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova.
Valentina Matvienko and Tanzila Narbaeva signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on labor migration issues between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. According to the document, the parties intend to exchange information on their legislative activities in this area, study the practice of implementing relevant legislative acts, discuss international experience in managing migration processes, and improve the legal framework of Russia and Uzbekistan in the field of migration regulation.
