The new KNAUF plant will reduce logistics costs for building materials in Fergana valley

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the end of 2021, KNAUF will launch a plant for the production of dry gypsum mixtures and gypsum boards in the Fergana Valley.
The Knauf International group of companies has been operating in the Uzbek market for over 20 years. Plaster, putty and gypsum boards (before the transition to the new standard they were called "gypsum plasterboards") are produced according to German technology at two KNAUF enterprises in the Bukhara region.
New KNAUF plant in the Fergana Valley
In 2019, the company began the construction of a third plant in Uzbekistan. The Fergana Valley was chosen as the next location for the new facility. The planned investments amount to EUR 17.2 million.
Dmitry Deripalko, head of KNAUF enterprises in Uzbekistan
The Fergana Valley is a huge region of our country with serious needs for high-quality building materials. At the same time, transportation costs for the delivery of Knauf products to that region are quite high. The road by truck from Bukhara to the cities of the Fergana Valley takes 15-16 hours, and delivery depends on the weather conditions at the Kamchik pass. Railway delivery is also not always prompt.
All these inconveniences will be solved by the construction of the plant. Its production capacity is 17 million sq. m of gypsum boards and 40 thousand tons of dry gypsum mixtures per year. The new venture will meet the high demand in the region and reduce the logistics costs incurred by the consumer. Thus, the people of the valley will be able to buy building materials of German quality in the required quantity with fairly prompt delivery.
Environmental friendliness of KNAUF production
Construction is carried out according to global standards that are in effect at KNAUF factories around the world and with the obligatory observance of National norms and requirements. The implemented technological solutions are energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
Dmitry Deripalko, head of KNAUF enterprises in Uzbekistan
All plants of the international KNAUF group, in addition to national standards, are obliged to follow the global standards of the company. For example, adhere to Lean (5S) and Continuous Improvement (CI) practices. The requirements for production in Uzbekistan are no different from the requirements put towards the KNAUF headquarters in Germany.
Dust collecting installations ensure the absence of dust emissions in the premises and adjacent territories. There are no “dust plumes” and no harmful emissions from KNAUF. Already today, before the launch of the plant, we proactively carry out an inspection of the dust content of the air. After the commissioning of the plant, we will be able to justify the environmental friendliness of our new enterprise. This way, the residents of the surrounding areas will be sure that our production does not affect the environment. I would like all market players to comply with environmental standards, which are not yet observed in the Fergana Valley.
To date, investments in "KNAUF GIPS FERGANA" LLC have been utilized by 70%: the construction of the building and installation of the production line has been completed, and the gypsum plant is being installed. The launch of the plant is scheduled for the end of 2021.
