International Seminar "Youth and Human Rights" takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 April 2021, an international seminar on youth rights was held in Geneva in accordance with resolution 41/13 of the Human Rights Council of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights "Youth and Human Rights".
The purpose of this seminar is to identify discrimination and problems that young people face in the implementation of human rights, increase the authority of youth rights within the framework of the relevant UN mechanisms and identify measures that should be developed by member states of the UN Human Rights Council in this direction.
The event was opened by: United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, Representative of the UN Secretary General for Youth Affairs Jayatma Vikramanayake, Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, Alexander Martelli.
In the first part of the seminar, the difficulties and problems faced by young people in realizing their rights were discussed. The workshop was moderated by Imma Guerras-Delgado, Team Leader of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the Rights of Children and Youth.
During the seminar, the leaders of international organizations dealing with youth issues also spoke, in particular, Niall Higgins from the International Labor Organization, coordinator for advocacy (CHOICE of Youth) P. Stanbury, founder of the education foundation and young leader of BRM Tanya Rose, member of the Council for Peaceful Youth Tahire Sisilafia and Director of the Zimbabwe Healthcare Network, Gif Dzorayi, who spoke about the urgent problems of youth at the international and regional levels.
In the second part, a number of speakers shared their views on mainstreaming youth in human rights mechanisms and on the way forward for youth and human rights at the international level.
In particular, the Republic of Uzbekistan was represented by the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Director of the National Center for Human Rights Akmal Saidov, who informed the participants of the seminar about the initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, put forward at the High-level Segment of the 46th Session of the Human Rights Council of the Organization United Nations regarding the purposeful work carried out in our country in relation to ensuring the rights and freedoms of youth.
According to A. Saidov, "the comprehensive provision of the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of youth is one of the priority directions of the policy pursued by the President of Uzbekistan."
During the conference, the possibilities of further expanding the process of youth integration were considered, further steps in the field of protecting the rights of youth at the international level were discussed, and proposals were made for the development of resolutions of the UN Human Rights Council.
