The President of Uzbekistan receives the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 April, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Muhammad Javad Zarif, who is in our country on a working visit.
The current state and prospects for the development of Uzbek-Iranian relations in the political, trade and economic, investment, transport and logistics and other spheres were discussed.
The head of our state noted with satisfaction the progressive development of Uzbek-Iranian relations in the difficult conditions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
In turn, Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif expressed sincere gratitude to the leader of Uzbekistan for the warm welcome, conveyed greetings and best wishes from Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to issues of economic cooperation, development of trade relations and promotion of new cooperation projects.
The importance of building up cooperation in the transport and communication sphere, including the effective involvement of Iranian seaports and the development of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport corridor, was noted.
Topical aspects of the international and regional agenda of mutual interest were also discussed, including issues of ensuring regional security and advancing the peace process in Afghanistan.
The head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry highly appreciated the efforts of Uzbekistan to facilitate the peace talks on Afghanistan, to involve this country in regional trade and economic cooperation.
