Feruza Eshmatova elected to the post of Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 January, deputies of the Legislative Chamber elected Feruza Eshmatova as Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman). This was reported by the press service of the lower house of parliament. The candidacy must be approved by the Senate.
Prior to that, Feruza Eshmatova (born in 1979, specializing in law) served as chairman of the Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality.
The Ombudsman is elected for a term of five years. His candidacy is nominated by the President of Uzbekistan. The candidacy must now be approved by the Senate.
Since May 2015, Ulugbek Mukhammadiev held the post of Ombudsman.
