Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 January 2021, Minister of Energy Alisher Sultanov met with the heads of diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan in foreign countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan to discuss the implementation of current projects in the country’s fuel and energy complex with the participation of international investments. as well as new opportunities.
More than 30 Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan took part in the negotiations.
In particular, during the meeting, they discussed the implementation of the agreement on the project "Construction of a 500 kV power transmission line Surkhan-Puli-Khumri" (Afghanistan), the construction of 4 new thermal power plants with a capacity of 940 MW together with Turkish companies, the implementation of the construction of renewable energy projects with companies from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, France.
These and other issues are being worked out by the Ministry of Energy in conjunction with the diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan in order to quickly implement the planned projects in the fuel and energy complex. Today, this partnership is based on foreign direct investment and a new basis for the energy sector of Uzbekistan - public-private partnership.
As part of the implementation of projects based on PPP, in particular for the construction of solar and wind power plants, applications for participation in tenders are submitted by up to 80 potential foreign investors.
Given the growth of foreign investors in projects in the fuel and energy complex, such direct meetings of the Ministry of Energy’s leadership with the heads of the country’s diplomatic missions are planned to be held on a scheduled basis. The direct participation of the ambassadors of Uzbekistan in accelerating the implementation of energy projects is a significant contribution to achieving energy independence in Uzbekistan.
