Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- During the visit of the head of the upper house of parliament Tanzila Narbaeva to Geneva, meetings were organized with the UN Under-Secretary-General, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) Olga Algayerova, as well as with the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the UN Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland Zenebe Kebede Korcho.
During the meeting with the Executive Secretary of the EEC, Olga Algayerova, congratulating the Republic of Uzbekistan on her election to the UN Human Rights Council, noted that this event demonstrates the successful foreign policy of Uzbekistan, and also testifies to the country's achievements over the past four years under the leadership of President Sh. Mirziyoyev.
It was noted that in recent years the importance of Central Asia has increased, while the greatest merit in the "integration surge" belongs to Uzbekistan. Thanks to the openness of Uzbekistan, there has been a positive trend towards the development of regional cooperation. Also of great importance for the EEC countries is the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to establish under the auspices of the UN a Regional Center for the Development of Transport and Communication Connectivity, in the formation of which the Commission expressed its readiness to provide expert assistance, Olga Algayerova emphasized.
It was said that the EEC is closely following the large-scale reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan and positively evaluates the current dynamics of bilateral cooperation, which covers a wide range of key areas such as transport and logistics, housing construction, transboundary water resources, international trade, ecology and the environment, -private partnership and others.
Olga Algayerova dwelled on the events, including the approval of the Third Environmental Performance Review of Uzbekistan within the framework of the 25th session of the Committee on Environmental Policy (Geneva, on 13-15 November 2019).
As part of its implementation, Uzbekistan was invited to take an active part in the EEC "Trees in Cities" initiative to plant trees in the cities of the region.
At the meeting, information was provided on the joint work begun on the preparation of the National Review of the Republic of Uzbekistan "Innovations for Sustainable Development"
Taking into account the active role played by Uzbekistan in the activities of the EEC, Algayerova announced the Commission's proposal to hold the next meeting of the Steering Committee of the United Nations Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) and the Economic Forum in the fall of 2021 in Uzbekistan.
The issue of establishing the SPECA Trust Fund was also raised, the formation of which, according to O. Algayerova, is necessary for the implementation of promising projects on the territory of the CA member states.
The Executive Secretary of the EEC invited the Uzbek side to take part in the annual 69th session of the Commission on the theme "Promotion of a circular economy and sustainable use of natural resources in the EEC region", which will be held on April 20-21, 2021 in Geneva. Its program will include - the development of a conceptual vision for the future of the ECE region, consideration of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through economic integration and cooperation.
Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the UN Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, Zenebe Kebede Korcho, expressed his congratulations to Uzbekistan on being elected to the UN Human Rights Council.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of developing inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
The Ethiopian side noted that strengthening inter-parliamentary ties will serve to develop interstate relations and increase the well-being of the people of the two countries.
