Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Riga Kadambay Sultanov met with the Minister of Culture of Latvia Nauris Puntulis, Dunyo news agency reported.
Prospects for enhancing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Latvia in the field of culture and art, increasing the intensity of bilateral exchanges were discussed.
During the conversation, Nauris Puntulis noted that Latvia and Uzbekistan are linked by historical ties of cultural cooperation and mutual enrichment. An outstanding Latvian composer, folklorist and music teacher Emils Melngailis, who lived and worked in Uzbekistan in 1904-1919, is indicated as a vivid example.
The Minister noted the consistent growth of activity in the Latvian-Uzbek relations in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. In particular, the participation on a regular basis of Latvian cultural and art workers in the music festivals "Makom" in Shakhrisabz, "Sharq taronalari" in Samarkand and other events of international importance held in Uzbekistan was especially emphasized.
With regret, the forced cancellation due to the pandemic of a number of important programs of cooperation between cultural and art workers of the two countries was stated.
Nauris Puntulis supported the proposal to start joint development of the Cooperation Plan between Uzbekistan and Latvia in the field of culture. He announced his readiness, as the situation with the pandemic improves, to establish and intensify work in such areas as the study and preservation of cultural heritage, including folklore, exchange of experience in the development of musical and song art, holding joint concerts with the participation of creative groups from Latvia and Uzbekistan.
The conviction was expressed that the development of cultural ties will contribute to deepening mutual understanding and further strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the peoples of the two countries.
