"Since the beginning of this year, the COVID-19 pandemic has become a global issue on the agenda." The spread of a new type of coronavirus has led to serious economic and social consequences around the world. The population, especially the youth, is faced with many problems that require a comprehensive response from states and the international community.
In such circumstances, it is important that the voice of young people is heard. The document emphasizes that "In Uzbekistan, where young people make up more than half of the population, ensuring their rights, freedoms and legitimate interests is a priority of state policy."
In connection with all of the above, “the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Youth, initiated by Uzbekistan at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, will be important to ensure the rights of more than two billion young men and women around the world, will serve to expand multilateral cooperation in order to educate, support the young generation, protecting its interests and creating conditions for self-realization. This initiative is widely supported by the international community,” the President’s message says.
He also expressed confidence that "the participants of today’s forum will also support this initiative, complement the draft document with their constructive initiatives."

“The theme of the Forum“ Youth 2020: Global Solidarity, Sustainable Development and Human Rights ”is aimed at promoting wider participation of youth representatives in public life and decision-making processes,” said the UN Secretary General. “This is important to improve the fairness of political processes, create better and more sustainable policies, and restore youth trust in public institutions. In this regard, the United Nations supports the efforts of governments to develop youth policies that enable young people to participate independently in social and political decision-making and strategic development goals that include the interests of young people.”
The UN Secretary General stresses that "The actions of young people are a key factor in solving major global problems, such as the climate crisis, protection of human rights, prevention and resolution of conflicts."
António Guterres also expresses concern that the COVID-19 crisis has disrupted "the education of more than 90% of the world’s students, exacerbating existing inequalities and complicating the global learning crisis." However, he notes that "While education is an obvious victim of the pandemic, it is also becoming a solution for long-term recovery and sustainable development." In this regard, the Message contains a call to join the educational campaign “Save our future”.
