Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 27 July 2020, in partnership with the Association of Eurasian Economic Relations "ECO AVRASYA" with the participation of representatives of the official, expert-analytical and business circles of Turkey, as well as the Uzbek diaspora, an Uzbek -Turkish business forum on the topic "Economic diplomacy in a pandemic: the experience of Turkey and Uzbekistan" took place in Ankara.
The forum was attended by the Minister of Trade of the Turkish Republic Ruhsar Pekcan from the Turkish side, and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov from the Uzbek side.
It should be noted that this format has become traditional for the interaction of the business communities of the two countries: the previous event - the Uzbek-Turkish Forum on the topic: "New Uzbekistan: large-scale reforms and renewal" - coincided with the meeting of the bilateral Uzbek-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic cooperation held in July last year.
During the discussion held within the framework of the forum, representatives of Turkish business emphasized the significant potential for further attracting investment to Uzbekistan, formed due to a number of systemic factors: consistent reforms in key socio-economic spheres, macroeconomic stability, favorable geographical position, availability of natural resources, capacious internal market and established trade relations with the countries of the region, as well as a high degree of economic diversification. They also noted positive shifts in improving the legal framework in the areas of investment and foreign trade, the tax administration system, the fight against corruption, which are indicators of an improvement in the investment climate and conditions for doing business in the country.
Also during the event, a common position was outlined on the need to strengthen bilateral economic ties by enhancing contacts between relevant ministries, departments, business associations and companies of the two countries by organizing regular communication and joint work both in the format of direct meetings and through the use of online platforms. The active use of the mechanisms of so-called "economic diplomacy" in the current global epidemiological situation, according to the forum participants, is one of the most effective ways to maintain macroeconomic stability and reduce the negative impact of the pandemic on the economy of the state.
The head of the Uzbek delegation - Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov, speaking during the forum, stressed that relations between Uzbekistan and Turkey, thanks to the efforts of the governments and business communities of the two countries, have a systemic, multifaceted nature, and noted that Turkey is among strategic partners of the Republic in the investment, trade and economic spheres.
He also stressed that the basis for mutually beneficial and long-term cooperation will be the favorable conditions created in Uzbekistan for foreign capital, along with a consistent approach to the implementation of bilateral agreements, focused on the full and timely implementation of the agreements reached, and called on the Turkish business community to remain committed towards a close mutually beneficial investment and trade partnership, making full use of the potential of Uzbekistan in all areas.
At the end of the event, a ceremony of awarding certificates of honor to a member of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey D.Yilmaz, Chairman of the Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Exchanges R.Hisazhiklioglu, Chairman of the Turkey-Uzbekistan Business Council (DEIK) I.Ekmekchibashi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company Bactat Guide took place.
