Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to preliminary estimates, in January-June 2020, the gross domestic product (GDP) of the Republic of Uzbekistan at current prices made up 255.25 trillion soums and, compared to the same period of 2019, increased by 0.2%.
According to the Uzbek State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, the GDP deflator index, in relation to the prices of January-June 2019, made up 113.6%.
In January-June 2020, in the structure of GDP produced, the gross added value of the production of goods made up 14.42 trillion soums, the services sector – 89.71 trillion soums, and net taxes on products – 20.11 trillion soums.
In January-June 2020, GDP growth slowed down to 0.2% versus 6.0% in January-June 2019 and 5.9% in January-June 2018. At the same time, the GDP deflator index slowed down to 113.6% after 119.5% in January-June 2019 and 134.4% in January-June 2018.
When calculated in US dollars at the average exchange rate for the period under review, nominal GDP totaled US$26.07 billion (for January-June 2019 – US$26.61 billion).
GDP per capita of the country made up 7.5 million soums (or, in equivalent, - US$766) and, in comparison with January-June 2019, in real terms decreased by 1.8%. The growth rates of GDP per capita in January-June 2018 and 2019 were 4.2% and 4.1%, respectively.
The gross value added created by all sectors of the economy made up 92.1% of the total GDP and increased by 0.3% (contribution to GDP growth - 0.3 percentage points). Net taxes on products in the structure of GDP made up 7.9% and decreased by 1.3% (negative contribution to GDP growth - 0.1 p.p.).
A positive contribution to GDP growth was made by the sectors of agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 0.6 p.p. (in January-June 2019 - 0.6 p.p.) and construction - 0.5 p.p. (in January-June 2019 - 1.4 p.p.).
Industry and the service sector made a negative contribution to GDP growth, which in January-June 2020 made up 0.5 p.p. and - 0.3 p.p. respectively. In January-June 2019, the contribution of industry to GDP growth was 1.2 p.p., the service sector - 2.1 p.p.
Due to the reduction in net taxes on products, GDP fell by 0.1 percentage points. In the same period of 2019, net taxes on products made a positive contribution to GDP growth, which made up 0.7 p.p.
In January-June 2019, compared to the corresponding period of 2018, significant shifts were noted in the structure of GDP, characterized by a decrease in the share of agriculture, forestry and fisheries to 23.4% (in January-June 2018 - 26.7%) and an increase in the share of industry to 30.2% (in January-June 2018 - 27.8%).
At the end of January-June 2020, insignificant changes are noted in the sectoral structure of GDP. Thus, the share of agriculture, forestry and fisheries in the sectoral structure of GDP (GVA) increased from 23.4% to 24.1%, construction - from 7.6% to 7.8%, while the share of industry decreased from 30.2% to 29.9%, services - from 38.8% to 38.2%.
At the end of January-June 2020, agriculture, forestry and fisheries showed positive growth rates at the level of 2.8%. The positive dynamics in agriculture, forestry and fisheries is due to an increase in crop production by 4.0% (in January-June 2019 - an increase of 3.6%, in January-June 2018 - a decrease of 1.5%) and animal husbandry - by 1.6% (in January-June 2019 - an increase of 2.0%, in January-June 2018 - an increase of 3.9%).
In the industry, there is a decrease in value added in comparable prices by 1.9%. The negative dynamics in this sector is mainly due to a decrease in the value added of the mining and quarrying industry by 20.1% after a noticeable increase in the previous two years (growth in January-June 2019 – by 5.6%, January-June 2018 – by 35.9%). At the same time, the decrease in the value added of this industry was mainly affected by the reduction in crude oil and natural gas production by 23.9%, the share of which in the mining industry and quarrying is 79.3%.
The added value of the manufacturing industry increased in real terms by 2.2% (in January-June 2019 - by 4.9%, in January-June 2018 - 4.2%).
The electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning industry also showed positive growth of 12.9% versus 3.9% growth in January-June 2019 and a 0.1% decline in January-June 2018. In terms of the added value of water supply, sewerage, waste collection and disposal, a decrease of 7.1% was noted (in January-June 2019 - a decrease by 11.4%, in January-June 2018 - an increase by 10.1%).
The share of manufacturing in the structure of value added in the industrial sector increased to 73.9% against 69.6% in January-June 2019. Accordingly, there was a decrease in the share of the mining industry and quarrying in the structure of value added in the industrial sector to 16.8% (in January-June 2019 - 22.4%).
At the end of January-June 2020, in the structure of the gross value added of the manufacturing industry, the largest share fell on the metallurgical and metalworking industry (except for machinery and equipment), which reached 40.6%.
The share of the production of food, beverages and tobacco products made up 13.5%, textiles, clothing, leather and related products - 12.5%, rubber, plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products - 9.0%, chemical products - 7.7%, vehicles, trailers, semi-trailers and other transport equipment - 6.0%, coke and petroleum products - 2.7%, electrical equipment - 1.8% and other manufacturing products - 6.2%.
Compared to January-June 2019, construction work increased by 7.3%. At the same time, the growth rates of construction of buildings and structures made up 9.7% (in January-June 2019 - 20.7%, in January-June 2018 - 18.1%), specialized construction works - 5.1% (in January -June 2019 - 16.4%, January-June 2018 - 25.3%).
Along with this, a decrease in volumes was noted in the construction of civilian facilities, which made up 97.5% against 150.0% in January-June 2019 and 129.3% in January-June 2018.
At the end of January-June 2020, the gross value added of the service sector made up 89.71 trillion soums and, compared to the same period of 2019, decreased by 0.7%. Including services for transportation and storage decreased by 8.0%, accommodation and catering - by 17.4%. Along with this, trade services (including repair of vehicles) increased by 0.7%, information and communication - by 15.5%.
In January-June 2020, in the structure of gross value added of trade (including repair of motor vehicles), the largest share fell on retail trade (excluding trade in motor vehicles) and reached 65.7% (in January-June 2019 - 64.2%). The share of wholesale trade (excluding trade in motor vehicles) made up 28.1% (in January-June 2019 - 29.0%), wholesale and retail trade in motor vehicles and their repairs - 6.2% (in January-June 2019 - 6.8%).
In January-June 2020, in the structure of gross value added in the transportation and storage industry, the largest share fell on road transport - 56.4% (in January-June 2019 - 51.8%). Pipeline transport made up 16.7% (in January-June 2019 - 19.1%), railway transport - 13.7% (in January-June 2019 - 11.7%), auxiliary transport activities - 9.6% (in January-June 2019 - 11.7%), air transport - 3.6% (in January-June 2019 - 5.7%) of the total value added of this industry.
In January-June 2020, the share of information and communication in the country's economy made up 1.8% (in January-June 2019 - 1.7%). In the structure of the added value of this industry, the main share fell on telecommunications services (wire and mobile communications, Internet, etc.) and made up 75.4% (in January-June 2019 - 75.3%). The remaining 24.6% of the added value (in January-June 2019 - 24.7%) created in this industry falls on other areas (publishing, computer programming, programming and broadcasting, etc.).
In January-June 2020, small entrepreneurship (business) created added value in the amount of 120.57 trillion soums, or 51.3% of the total added value created in the economy. In the context of the main sectors of the economy, the share of small entrepreneurship (business) in the gross value added was: in agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 97.8%, construction - 74.9%, services - 39.4%, industry - 22.8%.
In January-June 2020, the GDP deflator index made up 113.6% in relation to prices for the same period in 2019. The highest values of indices - deflators in the context of industries were noted in industry - 117.1%, agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 116.2%, trade, accommodation and food services - 114.2% and other service industries - 118.6%. Indices - deflators are lower than in the economy as a whole (113.6%) were observed in transportation and storage, information and communications - 106.2%, construction - 111.9%. The deflator index of net taxes on products was 94.0%.
