Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 2 July 2020, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan together with the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Italy and the Italo-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce (“ITALUZ”) organized the Uzbek-Italian business forum (in the agro-industrial sector) ) in the format of the video conference.
The purpose of this videoconference is to develop export-oriented products, as well as trade, economic, investment, and regional cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Italian Republic, the CCI press service reported.
The event was attended by Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan Adham Ikramov, President of the Italo-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce Luigi Iperti, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to the Italian Republic Otabek Akbarov, as well as business circles of the two countries operating in the agricultural sector.
During his speech, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan A. Ikramov noted that in recent years, trade and economic cooperation between the business circles of the two countries has intensified and this is confirmed by joint events.
In turn, Mr. Luigi Iperti thanked the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan for active cooperation and interaction in the implementation of joint projects with partner organizations in Italy.
The prospects of interaction and cooperation in the agricultural sector were discussed. Particular attention was paid to attracting advanced Italian technologies and know-how to the Republic, covering the entire cycle of production, collection, sorting, storage, processing and packaging of agricultural products for its sale on the domestic market and export.
They also discussed the possibility of localizing the production of individual components of Italian equipment and technologies in Uzbekistan. This will reduce the cost of equipment and increase its availability for Uzbek companies, as well as export to neighboring countries. During the business forum, Italian companies showed interest in exporting dried fruits, various types of nuts, and saffron to Italy.
Representatives of Italian companies, such as BESANA GROUP, BERTUZZI FOOD, PRIAMO, SFOGGIA, and PERUZZO, who introduced the participants to their companies’ activities, made presentations at the video conference.
The Uzbek side was attended by more than 20 enterprises and companies of Uzbekistan operating in the field of agriculture, as well as a speech by the head of the main department of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ramin Hasanov, deputy chairman of HC “Uzbekozikovkatholding” Bohodir Yunusov, and adviser to the general director of “BMB Trade Group »Bochodir Kamilov.
Within the framework of this video conference between the representatives of the two countries, the prospects of further development of the Uzbek-Italian trade and economic relations and the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in this industry were discussed. Including an exchange of views on enhancing partnerships between companies of Uzbekistan and Italy in the agro-industrial sector.
An open dialogue made it possible to clearly identify areas of mutual interest for further in-depth cooperation, bearing in mind the elaboration of promising projects and agreements and to determine an effective format for interaction between the business circles of Uzbekistan and Italy.
Following the results of the event, the following agreements were reached:
-signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan and the Chamber of Commerce "Italy-Uzbekistan";
-signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Association of Exporters of Uzbekistan and the Chamber of Commerce "Italy-Uzbekistan";
-exchange of information and commercial offers on the export of domestic products to Italy, as well as the supply of Italian equipment and technologies to Uzbekistan.
On 21 November 2019, a delegation of the Lombardy region headed by the Governor Attilio Fontana paid a visit to Uzbekistan. Within the framework of this visit, a cooperation exchange in the B2B format and an Uzbek-Italian business forum were organized.
According to the results of 2019, the trade turnover between the countries made up US$402.3 million (compared with 2018 (US$303.2 million), an increase of 32%), where export accounted for US$26.6 million and imports – US$375.7 million. In Uzbekistan, 50 enterprises with Italian capital operate, 14 of them with 100% Italian capital.
