Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 June 2020, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Canada, François-Philippe Champagne.
The parties examined the state and prospects of intensification of Uzbek-Canadian relations, interaction within the framework of international organizations.
The heads of foreign affairs agencies paid special attention to building up trade, economic and investment cooperation. Interest was expressed in the active entry of Canadian business into the Uzbek market and the implementation of high-tech investment projects in the fields of renewable energy, industry and agriculture.
It was noted that an integral component of cooperation between the two countries is interaction at the sites of international organizations. The parties agreed to expand cooperation within the UN and its specialized institutions.
François-Philippe Champagne emphasized the role and place of Uzbekistan in Central Asia and expressed readiness to provide comprehensive support in the implementation of the initiatives of our country in the international arena.
Ministers also exchanged views on Afghan issues. The parties emphasized the need for a speedy transition to the peaceful track of the situation in Afghanistan, involving the country in trade, economic and infrastructure processes in Central Asia.
During the conversation, the current situation in the world related to the distribution of COVID-19 was also considered. The importance of making joint efforts to mitigate the negative impact of the pandemic was noted. In this context, the Foreign Minister of Canada announced the allocation of 250 thousand Canadian dollars to combat coronavirus infection in Uzbekistan.
During the negotiations, other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
