Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In connection with the spread of the new COVID-19 coronavirus worldwide, an exchange of mutual support took place between the Youth Chamber of Nagoya and the Republic of Uzbekistan with the assistance of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Nagoya is the host city of the national team of Uzbekistan at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Also, an Agreement on partnership of cooperation in the field of tourism and cultural exchange was signed with Tashkent.
The Nagoya City Hall received a request from the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Japan for assistance in providing assistance, including medical equipment, to combat the spread of coronavirus. In this regard, on the initiative of the Youth Chamber of the city, which is actively engaged in exchanges with the Republic at the level of ordinary citizens, the Nagoya administration decided to provide humanitarian assistance to Uzbekistan as part of its assistance in the fight against coronavirus.
From the Uzbek side, a citizen of Uzbekistan Halimov Muzaffar, who lives in Tashkent and works in a Japanese company, expressed a desire to donate medical masks to the city of Nogoy through the Japanese Embassy in the Republic of Uzbekistan, which led to an exchange of mutual support.
On 28 May, in the city hall of Nagoya, the ceremony of handing over the masks to the Youth Chamber of Nagoya was held. In turn, the Youth Chamber provided the government of Uzbekistan with humanitarian assistance in the amount of 300,000 yen (US$2,800) to combat coronavirus infection.
The city of Nagoya, starting from the period of preparation for signing the Agreement on Inter-city Partnership, took coordinated actions with Tashkent and intends to continue to contribute to the development of exchange between cities at both the official and private levels, providing assistance in the activities of the Youth Chamber of the city, which plans further joint projects with Uzbekistan.
