Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Finland has become a new donor to the Multi-Partnership Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region in Uzbekistan (MPTF).
On 29 May 2020, the Government of Finland and the MPTF Office in New York (Trust Fund Administrator) signed the Standard Administrative Agreement on a Finnish contribution of 1 million euros to the Trust Fund.
The decision to allocate this amount was announced at the 15th meeting of the Uzbekistan-EU Cooperation Council, held in Brussels in November 2019, by Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto.
It is expected that these funds will be used to implement the Fund’s Unified Strategy, which is aimed at solving six clusters of interrelated problems through the prism of the human security concept:
- Environmental Safety;
- Economic security;
- Food security;
- Health safety;
- Social security;
- Inefficiency of donor assistance.
Finland’s contribution strengthens the status of the Fund as an important platform for multilateral solidarity in overcoming the impact of the Aral Sea crisis on the life and socio-economic status of people.
