Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A webinar on the implementation of GLOBAL GAP standards in Uzbekistan, organized by the Uzstandard Agency in conjunction with the Embassy of our country in Latvia, was held today.
The president and CEO of GLOBAL GAP Christian Muller, the regional coordinator of this organization Edite Strazdynia, the general director of the Uzstandard Agency Dilshod Sattarov, as well as heads of more than 50 farms interested in exporting their products to international markets took part in the event via video communication.
The meeting discussed issues of supporting local producers and farms in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. An exchange of views took place on the prospects for enhancing partnerships and the specifics of assistance in increasing the number of holders of GLOBAL GAP certificates.
Speaking at the event, Christian Muller praised the unprecedented commitment of the Government of Uzbekistan to supporting domestic agricultural exporters through the widespread adoption of the internationally recognized GLOBAL GAP standard.
He said that Uzbekistan, along with Japan, is the clearest example of a systematic approach to stimulating its exporters. Christian Muller expressed his readiness to personally arrive in Uzbekistan as soon as international air connections are restored.
In turn, the regional coordinator of this organization, Edite Strazdynia, emphasized the importance of introducing advanced standards in Uzbekistan to enter European markets. It was noted that today 47 Uzbek enterprises have GLOBAL GAP certification. She praised the efforts to bring their number to 250. In her opinion, in the future the development of coordination systems, improvement of quality and safety indicators of fruits and vegetables and agricultural products will become the basis for expanding the geography of export of domestic products.
During the videoconference, special attention was paid to the training of personnel in foreign universities, the intensification of the exchange of experience, the creation of modern integrated testing laboratories, as well as the support of local manufacturers, which will make it possible to introduce GLOBAL GAP standards in the republic.
During the webinar, international experts answered all questions of interest to local farmers and producers. In order to mitigate the negative effects of the coranavirus pandemic, it was decided to regularly organize training seminars of this type.
Note that GLOBAL GAP is an independent organization that defines the requirements for voluntary certification of agricultural products worldwide. The main goal is to establish a single standard of Good Agricultural Practice (G.A.P.), applicable to all types of agricultural products.
GlobalG.A.P certification program affects all stages of production, from feed or seed to finished products manufactured by agricultural enterprises.
