Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The head of the diplomatic mission of Uzbekistan in Washington, Javlon Vakhabov, held talks with the assistant to the Secretary of Commerce of the USA, Yan Steff.
During the meeting, they discussed prospects for expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation, as well as the implementation of the agreements reached at the meetings of the leadership of Uzbekistan with US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross in Tashkent in October 2018, Dunyo reported.
The representative of the US Department of Commerce noted that the visits of Secretary of Commerce Wilbor Ross and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Uzbekistan indicate the desire of the US government to provide comprehensive assistance in the development of all areas of the bilateral agenda. In his opinion, cooperation in the trade and investment sphere received special development. The volume of trade between Uzbekistan and the United States over the past three years has almost tripled.
In this context, it is emphasized that the introduction of advanced American technologies, know-how and management will always be accompanied by the development of human potential, the eradication of corruption, as well as ensuring transparency of the economy of the republic.
The head of the US department, supporting the development of mutual trade, welcomed the closure of the hearings at the Office of the US Trade Representative for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights, as well as the preservation of the status of the beneficiary country of the General System of Preferences (GSP) program, which allows exporting high-quality and competitive Uzbek products to the US market without charging customs duties.
According to the Uzbek Embassy in Washington, the US side also welcomed the implementation of the agricultural development strategy aimed at liberalizing the sector, as well as the measures taken by the government to eradicate child and forced labor in the cultivation and harvest of cotton. The successful activity of the American company CNH-Industrial in Uzbekistan on mechanization of the agro-industrial sector of the republic, which provides Uzbek farmers with high-tech combines, is noted.
The parties emphasized that these actions create a good prerequisite for strengthening the confidence of American agricultural companies and textile brands in the possibility of organizing their own production in Uzbekistan and connecting our country to their supply chain and production capacity.
They also discussed attracting US technical assistance to improve legislation and the institutional framework for the development of the capital market of Uzbekistan with the involvement of international financial and legal experts in the framework of the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the US Department of Commerce.
