GM Uzbekistan car output decreases in Jan-Mar

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The car output of GM Uzbekistan, a joint venture of US automaker General Motors (GM) and Uzbek automaker Uzavtoprom, decreased 3% year-on-year to 41,235 units in January-March 2009.
Of the total, GM Uzbekistan produced 18,887 Nexia cars, down 6.5% year-on-year; 13,826 Matiz compact cars, down 11.4% year-on-year; 4,370 Damas minivans, down 22.4% year-on-year; 562 Epica cars, down 0.5% year-on-year; 558 Captiva SUVs, up 15.1% year-on-year; as well as 3,032 Lacetti cars. The company did not produce Lacetti cars in January-March 2008.
In 2008, GM Uzbekistan’s car output increased 13.5% on the year to 195,038 units, in line with the official statistics.
GM Uzbekistan was set up in 2008 with the charter capital of US$266.7 million. GM holds 25% plus one share in the joint venture and has an option to increase its stake in the company to 40%. Uzavtoprom holds other 75%.
