Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13 February, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by the Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov was received by the Vice-President of the Republic of Turkey Fuat Oktay in Ankara.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere and was dedicated to discussing a wide range of bilateral relations.
The parties focused on the intensification of economic cooperation, bearing in mind the intensification of investment cooperation and the expansion of the range of mutual trade.
For this, practical measures were worked out in various areas and sectors with the definition of exact dates and specific performers.
They also touched on issues of systemic interaction in the field of transport and freight transportation, expanding cooperation in the framework of technical assistance programs and concessional lending by the Turkish government.
Separately, the prospects for cooperation on the creation of a branch of the Gebze special industrial zone were considered. In this context, the Turkish side welcomed the adoption in Uzbekistan of a new law “On Special Economic Zones” prepared on the basis of best foreign practices in this area.
They also studied the issues of accelerating preparations for the signing of the Agreement on preferential trade between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Turkey, expanding the list of commodity items proposed for inclusion in this agreement, and agreed on the procedure for its practical application. It is expected that these measures will greatly contribute to the fulfillment of the instructions of the Presidents of the two countries to bring trade between Turkey and Uzbekistan to US$5 billion.
During the dialogue, the sides expressed a common position on the advisability of organizing systematic work by holding regular meetings of the relevant departments of the two countries to review the implementation of joint activities.
In confirmation of this, the Turkish government plans to organize a visit of a delegation of Turkish entrepreneurs, led by the Minister of Industry and Trade of Turkey, at the beginning of March this year.
The parties also agreed to intensify cooperation within the framework of the mechanism of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and to ensure its work on an ongoing and systematic basis.
Following the meeting, agreements were reached on close cooperation within the framework of the tasks set, maintaining regular contacts on the promotion of events and projects agreed by the parties.
