Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13 November 2019, Senate Chairperson of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva attended and spoke at the official opening ceremony of the international conference on the theme “The Role of Courts in Combating Human Trafficking”.
The issue of combating trafficking in persons has been raised to the level of state policy. In 2019, by Decree of the President, a National Commission to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor was created, headed by the Chairman of the Senate.
Tanzila Narbaeva separately highlighted the results of the work carried out by the National Commission over the past period. “A road map has been developed to improve the position of Uzbekistan in the field of human trafficking and forced labor, taking into account the recommendations of international organizations such as Cotton Campaign and Human Rights Watch. Preventive, awareness-raising and campaigning work was carried out among the population, especially youth, as a result of which the number of crimes related to trafficking in persons over the past two years has decreased by almost 3.2 times, ”said the Senate Chairman.
Tanzila Narbaeva noted, “thanks to measures taken in the field of combating trafficking in human beings, only this year administrative measures were taken against 250 officials”.
The Chairoman of the Senate also emphasized that a program of measures has been adopted to protect the rights and freedoms of our compatriots abroad. To this end, the need was noted for a thorough analysis of the root causes of problems in combating trafficking in human beings, and coordination of the issue of establishing international cooperation in conducting criminal investigations.
