Uzbekistan, Tajikistan develop security cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 17 September, Tashkent hosted bilateral consultations between the office of the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the office of the Security Council of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Consultations are of particular importance in ensuring regional security, stability and sustainable development of Central Asian countries.

The parties reaffirmed their determination to expand and deepen multifaceted and multilevel cooperation in the field of security, including their readiness to further strengthen the legal framework and develop bilateral working mechanisms for practical cooperation.

During the consultations, issues of improving practical mechanisms of cooperation in the joint counteraction of extremist and terrorist activities, ensuring border security and protecting economic interests on the joint State border were considered, UzA reported.

At the event, joint initiatives and recommendations for further improving cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in the field of security were developed, the importance of maintaining the accumulated intense dynamics of relations and giving them further impetus due to significant unrealized potential was emphasized.

Following the bilateral consultations, a Memorandum of Cooperation between the office of the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the office of the Security Council of the Republic of Tajikistan and a protocol providing for specific measures on further deepening and expanding cooperation in the field of security were signed.
