Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Senators rejected the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On supporting breastfeeding and food requirements for infants and young children.”
During the discussion, it was noted that the upbringing of a harmoniously developed, healthy generation, the strengthening of the national gene pool, the protection of motherhood and childhood are priority areas of state policy in the country. At the same time, special attention is paid to improving the relevant legislation, and the considered regulatory act is also aimed at this.
The purpose of the Law is to regulate relations in the field of support of breastfeeding, as well as to ensure compliance with established food requirements for infants and young children.
The law was developed in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 7, 2018 “On comprehensive measures for the radical improvement of the healthcare system of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
For preliminary consideration of the Law, a working group was formed from among representatives of interested ministries and departments, as well as academia and civil society institutions, their suggestions and recommendations were taken into account. After a comprehensive study of the Law, a conclusion was drawn on the need for its full review.
In particular, speakers noted that some of the norms of this Law do not correspond to its name and goals, it does not reflect the mechanisms of state control over compliance with sanitary requirements, quality and safety of food products for infants and young children, in addition to this Law the norms enshrined in other laws are repeated.
With this in mind, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis adopted a resolution on rejecting this Law.
