Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 August 2019, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by First Deputy Foreign Minister Ilkhom Nematov, met with the Deputy Director General of Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Kim Hye-un as part of the Global Programming Conference on the Green Climate Fund in Songdo (Republic of Korea).
GGGI representatives were informed about the extent of the consequences of the drying of the Aral Sea and the work done over the past three years to restore the Aral Sea region, the efforts of the leadership of Uzbekistan to improve the socio-economic situation in the region, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said in a statement.
In this context, the prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Institute on projects to create small local reservoirs in the Amu Darya River Delta and on the dry bottom of the Aral Sea, as well as protective belts from forest stands on an area of 200,000 hectares in the area of Akpetke settlement and the organization of system planting in the territory, were discussed 100 thousand hectares on the drained bottom of the Aral Sea.
The parties considered the practical aspects of establishing the activities of the GGGI office in Tashkent, as well as mechanisms to expedite the receipt of donor funds, which will allow to prepare the necessary documentation in a shorter time.
An exchange of views also took place regarding the administrative and financial aspects of the preparation and submission of project documentation to international donor organizations, including the Green Climate Fund.
At the end of the conversation, Ilkhom Nematov conveyed an invitation to an international conference on the transformation of the Aral Sea region into a zone of environmental innovation and technology, which is scheduled for 25 October 2019 in Nukus.
