Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - From 16 to 19 July 2019, Tashkent will host a national seminar for teachers of secondary schools on the theme: “Integration of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) into formal and non-formal education”.
The workshop is organized by the UNESCO Office in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The event is held within the framework of the UNESCO regular program “Preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage in Uzbekistan through Strengthening National Capacities in the Field of Inventory and Integration of ICH in Education”.
The purpose of the event is to improve the qualifications of teachers in the implementation of the methodology for ICH in the formal education system. The seminar will use materials developed under the UNESCO project “Promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage among Educators to Strengthen Education for Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region”, implemented in 2013-2015 in close cooperation with the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan ratified the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008. The rich intangible cultural heritage of the country, which represents the knowledge and skills handed down from generation to generation, occupies a special place in the culture of Uzbekistan. These are customs, forms of representation and expression, as well as tools, objects, artifacts and cultural spaces associated with knowledge and skills, recognized by communities, groups and, in some cases, individuals as part of their cultural heritage. Such a legacy is an integral part of the life and culture of the peoples of Uzbekistan, providing a sense of identity and continuity and contributing to the development of creativity and social well-being.
Education and intangible cultural heritage are inextricably linked. The transfer of knowledge and skills related to ICH through formal and non-formal education plays a central role in the protection of ICH.
