Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An educational and simulation center for health professionals was opened in Tashkent, organized by GE Healthcare in cooperation with the Tashkent Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education (Tashkent Institute of Medical Education) in order to develop an effective system of continuing education and training of qualified medical personnel in the Republic.
Elmira Basitkhanova, Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Habibulla Akilov, the Rector of the Tashkent Institute of Advanced Medical Doctors, participated in the ceremony.
According to statistics, in recent years, the number of polyclinics in Uzbekistan has more than doubled, while the number of medical specialists has increased by 12% and continues to grow. This, in particular, causes the country’s high need for the active integration of medical practice with educational and scientific activities that will help accelerate the introduction of advanced medical advances in the therapeutic and diagnostic process.
The new training platform will combine the international experience of GE Healthcare and local expertise, providing Uzbek doctors with timely access to the best international practices and the opportunity to regularly improve their professional knowledge and skills. This initiative meets the objectives identified in the framework of the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On comprehensive measures to fundamentally improve the health care system of the Republic of Uzbekistan” and will help to meet the growing needs of the country in providing quality medical care.
Nina Kandelaki, President and Chief Executive Officer of GE Healthcare in Russia / CIS, said: “The scale of healthcare system modernization projects implemented in Uzbekistan and the record pace of development of modern medical technologies determine the particular importance of training doctors who will later work on high-tech diagnostic equipment. GE Healthcare is pleased to have the opportunity to apply the company’s global experience in the field of education and to contribute to the development of postgraduate education for healthcare professionals in the Republic of Uzbekistan. We are confident that the new knowledge gained at the center will help improve the quality of medical care for patients throughout the country. ”
The curriculum of the center is primarily focused on the development of practical skills for effective and safe work on advanced ultrasound diagnostics systems and meets the urgent needs of Uzbek specialists. It includes basic and expert level courses in the following areas: obstetrics, gynecology, cardiology and general visualization.
The training format includes lectures and practical trainings for which the center is equipped with modern ultrasound diagnostic medical system Voluson P6 produced by GE Healthcare, an interactive anatomical atlas and a fetal ultrasound phantom. Thus, training at the center allows doctors to combine obtaining theoretical knowledge and practicing practical research skills on high-tech equipment. Total center is designed for more than 150 students per year.
The classes will be conducted by teachers of the Ultrasound Diagnostics Department of the Tashkent Institute of Advanced Medical Education and highly qualified specialists of GE Healthcare in the field of modern diagnostic imaging and training methods. Leading Uzbek and international experts in the field of health will be invited to participate in lectures and master classes.
“In the system of higher and postgraduate medical education much attention is paid to the formation and development of practical skills of specialists. Training in the simulation center will allow students to more effectively consolidate and improve their knowledge in practice due to their active use in the work of modern ultrasound equipment installed in the center. First of all, it concerns doctors specializing in women’s health and perinatal diagnosis. In the future, we plan to expand the technical equipment of the center,” the rector of the Tashkent Institute of Postgraduate Education, Khabibul Akilov said.
GE Healthcare is actively involved in the modernization projects of the health system in Uzbekistan. In particular, as part of the state program to improve the level of perinatal diagnosis in the country, 200 multidisciplinary polyclinics of Uzbekistan were equipped with advanced ultrasound scanners GE Healthcare. In addition, the first positron emission tomography center opened in 2018 is equipped with a single line of high-tech equipment GE Healthcare, including a cyclotron, modules for the synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals, and a PET / CT scanner.
