Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Today, on 24 April, a workshop on the theme “Work on the implementation of the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation in the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO” began its work in Tashkent.
The seminar is devoted to the discussion of the implementation of the “WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation” in the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization.
This event was organized by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support of the GIZ Program “Trade Facilitation in Central Asia”.
The seminar is attended by representatives of ministries and departments involved in the regulation of foreign trade, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and business associations of Uzbekistan, representatives and experts of international organizations.
The WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement is one of the binding agreements of the World Trade Organization, which entered into force in February 2017. The importance of this Agreement stems from the fact that measures to simplify trade procedures are aimed at optimizing the processes of state regulation of cross-border trade and can significantly reduce costs in the implementation of foreign trade operations. This contributes to increasing international competitiveness and enhancing the economic efficiency of the private sector.
In addition, the Agreement envisages the involvement of representatives of the private sector in the process of identifying priority areas and developing recommendations for trade facilitation, which leads to increased reliability and feasibility of government decisions.
Seminar participants discuss the status of compliance of Uzbekistan with the requirements of the Agreement and preparations for the negotiation process on accession to the WTO, get acquainted with potential implementation scenarios and the experience of other countries in implementing this agreement.
Special attention is paid to the development of a strategy and a work plan for fulfilling commitments related to trade facilitation, discussion of the organization and role of the working group and the Trade Facilitation Committee, as well as the involvement of the private sector in the effective implementation of the agreement requirements.
