Citizen of Uzbekistan detained with US$19,000 at Russian airport

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 March 2019, during the check-in of passengers’ baggage at the customs post of the Russian Koltsovo airport, the citizen of Uzbekistan was detained with undeclared cash for US$19,000, according to media reports.
According to the General Consulate of Uzbekistan in Bratislava, the leadership of the customs (passenger) airport at Koltsovo airport confirmed the violation by the Uzbek citizen of Article 16.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.
After the customs proceedings, the Russian customs officials returned US$10,000 cash to the Uzbek citizen and he flew home on the same day, and the case was brought to court in the prescribed manner.
It is expected that in accordance with the mentioned article of the Code on Administrative Offenses an administrative fine of 50% of the undeclared amount will be imposed on the violator. Thus, US$4,500 out of US$9,000 will be directed to the Russian state. The other half will be returned to the citizen of Uzbekistan.
In this regard, the Consular and Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds the Uzbek citizens in Russia that when leaving the territory of this country without declaring it is allowed to export any currency in the aggregate of up to US$10,000.
