Hunarmand Association becomes a member of the World Crafts Council
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) –– On 11 March 2019, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Kuwait Bahrom Aloyev met with President of the World Crafts Council for the Asia-Pacific Region (WCC-APR) Gada Kaddoumi. In the conversation that took place, issues of establishing bilateral cooperation were discussed.
Gada Kaddumi highly appreciated the great attention paid by the leadership of our country to the development of Uzbek national handicraft. “In Uzbekistan, for centuries, various types of handicrafts have developed, for which the Uzbek people are famous throughout the world,” she said. “It is important to note that the craft has become a huge part of the cultural life in your country.”
The President of the WCC-APR informed that in accordance with the appeal of the Uzbek side, the Hunarmand Association of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been admitted to the World Crafts Council (WCC), whose headquarters is in London. Membership in the WCC will provide ample opportunities for the development of international cooperation of Uzbek artisans, as well as the organization of their exhibitions abroad.
Gadad Kaddumi, supporting the initiative of the Uzbek government to hold the International Festival of Craftsmen in September 2019 in Qoqand, reaffirmed its readiness to participate in organizing this event and to facilitate the invitation of craftsmen from WCC member countries to it.
Following the negotiations, an agreement was reached on the beginning of joint work on granting the status of a world city of artisans to Kokand.
Gada Kaddumi noted that she plans to visit Uzbekistan in April to discuss with the leadership of the Hunarmand Association issues of expanding cooperation, preparing for the upcoming International Festival in the city of Kokand, as well as wide familiarization with the development of handicraft in our country.
