New Uzbek- Liechtenstein venture to process absorbent cotton
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Uzbek-Liechtenstein joint venture Ost-Fud has been put into operation in Samarkand’s Oqdaryo district.

Bakhtiyor Vapoyev, head of the venture, said that starting from 2009, absorbent cotton will be refined once again and exported as a ready product. Therefore, the company installed modern equipment worth 100 million soums (about US$70,000).

The company’s profit will significantly increase through exporting absorbent cotton, which is demanded in the health care sector. That is, so far 1 tonne of the raw material has been sold at US$1,400, whereas 1 tonne of the ready product - US$3,500.

The capacity of the company is 750,000 tonnes of absorbent cotton per year. The company is now using 70 per cent of its production potential.
