CIS mission: Election campaign in Uzbekistan takes place in spirit of open competition

Mission of observers from CIS published an interim report on observation of preparation and organization of elections of the President of Uzbekistan.
The report covers period from 17 November to 28 November 2016. The CIS mission started observation over presidential elections in Uzbekistan from 17 November.
As of 28 November 2016, the mission accredited over 70 observers from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Executive Committee of the CIS.
The report said that the mission held meetings and exchanged opinion on election campaign at the Central Election Commission, Supreme Court, Prosecutor-General’s Office, Ministry of Interior Affairs of Uzbekistan, mission of OSCE/ODIHR, etc.
In the report, election campaign in Uzbekistan takes place in a calm atmosphere and in the spirit of open competition and high organizational level.
The mission said in its report that final observations and assessment on elections after the presidential elections.
The mission conducts its functions freely and independently, based on legislation of Uzbekistan and without interfering to election processes and internal affairs.
The CIS mission said that the agitation campaign is conducted in line with the legislation and the presidential hopefuls received equal conditions for promoting their programmes and meet with the voters.
It added that CEC effectively use potential of media to ensure openness and transparency of the presidential elections.
